~Heretic

Short Review By ADRIANO MAURIZIO GRISANTI 1995

Basically Heretic is similar to Doom, in other words it's a 3D
Shoot'em up. A 3D Shoot'em up involves going around 3D worlds or
levels, shooting various baddies as you go, and trying not to be
killed yourself in the process.

Heretic is a brilliant game which gets increasingly harder the
further you progress, but compensates for this by allowing the
player to gain more powerful weapons along the way. These
weapons range from a pathetic stick to hit your opponents with, to
weapons which shoot ammo to your opponents, which kill them
instantaneously. Besides the weapons you find along the way there
is a host of health potions and shields to collect, which all help
towards completing your quest.

Unlike Doom where you have modern weapons like chain guns and
rocket launchers, Heretic's weapons are based on weapons of medieval
origin, these include magic spells and gauntlets, etc. This is
probably what lets doom fans down, the old fashioned weapons, but
believe me they are still powerful and fun to use.

Heretic has plenty of levels to keep the player occupied for
ages, and is well worth anyone's collection, especially shoot'em up
freaks a like, however this game is not suitable for children under
12 as it has a lot of violence and blood shred, parents be warned.

Overall I give this game 92% as it is brilliant, the gameplay
is excellent, and sometimes makes you jump, as you don't know what's
around the next corner.
