PRNter v1.0 by LEE Tet Woo <twlee@mail.com>
===========================================

What is this program?
---------------------
PRNter is a simple, small Win32 program that sends PRN and PS
directly to a printer installed on your computer. If you have
previously created a PRN (or PS) file by 'printing to file', use
this program to output it to the printer. Although it is possible
to do this through the command-line with the 'copy' command, this
program makes the process much simpler. All you need to do is select
the printer from the printer list, select the file, and press
'Print'. (Of course, the printer must be installed for PRNter to be
able to print to it).

This program is useful if you do not have a printer physically
attached to your PC or accessible via a network, and wish to print
files at another PC (e.g. at a friends house, work, school etc.).
You can print a document to a file and then not have to worry about
the correct software being installed on the other PC. Just, copy
the printer file (PRN) onto a disk along with a copy of PRNter,
bring it to the other PC (running Windows 95/98, or possibly NT,
see below). Then just run PRNter on that PC, select the file and
copy it to the printer.

For example, if you are using Windoes 98, you can install the
the appropriate printer (that same one which you wish to output to)
to your system using the 'Add Printer' command (in the 'Printers'
folder) as a local printer with the 'Output Port' set to 'FILE:'.
Then, you can print documents on your computer using that installed
printer driver, with a PRN file being made for each document printed.
After that, use PRNter to output the PRN files to the printer, from
a PC which has access to the printer (i.e. locally, or through the
network) and has the printer installed. Alternatively, you can create
PRN files using the 'Print fo file' option when printing.

Note: this program just copies raw data from the file to the printer,
therefore, the file must be the correct format for the printer. Don't
expect to be able to create a PRN file for one printer, and then
have that file printer correctly on another printer (unless the
file has been printer to universal format such as Postscript, and
the other printer also supports that format). If the PRN file has
'printed' for a different printer, then you're likely to just get
garbage printed.

If you are printing to a printer which supports Postscript, then
this program should also be able to copy a PS file directly to the
printer.

Installation/uninstallation
---------------------------
To install this program, create a new folder (e.g. C:\PRNter), and
unzip the files in the .zip file to this folder. You will have to
manually create a shortcut to this program in your start menu. In
addition, you can manually associate PRN and PS files with this
program so they can easily be printer by double-clicking them. Icons
for PRN and PS files are included in the executable file
(PRNter.exe).

To uninstall, just delete the folder unzip the files to, along with
any shortcuts or file associations you added manually. No ini or
registry settings are added or modified by this program.

How to use this program
-----------------------
It is very straightforward. Run the executable file (PRNter.exe)
and a dialog will pop up. Select the printer you wish to output
your file to, and select the file you wish to print. Then just
press the 'Print' button. A message box will pop up telling you
whether printing was successful, or errors that occured.

Specifying the file to print can done through the command-line e.g.:
PRNter "C:\My Documents\Document1.prn"

This program has been tested with Windows 98, and should run fine
on Windows 95 as well. It has not been thoroughly tested with
Windows NT or 2000, but probably functions properly.

License, support, bug reports etc.
----------------------------------
This program is FREEWARE and you do not have to pay anything for it.
It doesn't do much so I'd be crazy to charge anything for it! This
program is freely distributable, as long as the original package is not
modified.

Since it is such simple program, it is unlikely that you'll encounter
any difficulties using it. But if you do have problems, you can email
me and I may reply, if i have time.

If you come across any bugs, feel free to email me and I'll try to
fix them as quickly as possible. Any suggestions of additional
features for this program are also welcomed, by I don't have much
free time so I might never implement them. This program was created
for my personal use and does everything I wanted it to so unless I
need it to do anything else, or find any bugs, I'm unlikely to ever
create a new version.
